Bridge worth 6 crores left to be washed away by JKPCC authorities

Who will compensate for the departmental negligence?

Srinagar, May 04 ( RNA ) : Moe than six crore rupees have been virtually thrown down the drain by the Jammu and Kashmir Construction Corporation ( JKPCC) authorities as the under construction bridge in Pattan area was deliberately left to be washed away with authorities conspicuously stopping the work mid may making it vulnerable for floods . The final work on the bridge which has been under construction from last more than a year at Trikolbal in Patten area of district Baramulla was stopped early February this year despite the availability of funds and cement for the reasons better known to the department ,resulting in the damages to the bridge due to flood water in the stream.
Sources said that the superstructure, abetments and all other works were completed early February and the then DGM of the JKPCC was approached by contractors to provide cement for the slab which despite availability, the DGM held back, possibly for kickbacks and some other favours. Sources further said the non- availability of cement-(which has to be provided by the department only and cannot be taken directly from the market by the contractor-) the contractor could not start the slab work and left the superstructure to gather rust. Locals said that due to negligence of the department, the bridge was swept away by the water currents and most part of it came under the gushy water which may have caused a huge damage to the structure. They said that a sheer negligence of the then DGM could throw the entire six core project into jeopardy.
Meanwhile the Executive Director of the JKPCC N.D Khawaja told RNA that he would be seeking detailed report from the concerned authorities. He however, evaded a directly reply of a question as who will compensate the damages.
“I will seek  a detailed report from the Kashmir division today itself .” Mr. Khawaja told RNA
