Snapped Power Supply leaves Kreeri Filteration Plant defunct

Officials contradict eachother as People demand probe

Baramulla, March 26 (RNA) :Thousands of residents have been hit by safe drinking water crises from last 15 days in Kreeri area of district Baramulla following the unprecedented power cut to local filtration plant which is feeding nearly fourty villages of the Kreeri belt. This is one among many filtration plants supplying filtered water to Kreeri and Wagoora Tehsils of Sangrama Constituency.

Significantly this Filteration plant which is popularly known as " Regional Water Supply Scheme Kreeri" was declared as the " Best Rural Filteration Plant" in North India by a visiting Central Water Team of Govt.of India in 2010.
Sources told Regional News Agency ( RNA) that the PDD has snapped the power supply to the plant nearly 15 days back as the PHE Sub division Kreeri which is overlooking the Filtration plant failed to clear more than one crore rupees liability . The surprising thing is that the PHE authorities kept silent about the grave issue and did not inform public about the supply of " Un- filtered" water to them.
Employees of the Plant confirmed to RNA that water was not being filtered in absence of the power supply from last two weeks , their officer however, chose to contradict them, claiming that power supply had nothing to do with the Filtration process.
" We are not able to filter the water due to absence of power supply. We used the generator for a few days but the ran out of disease which is not being supplied by our officers." two employees posted at Filteration plant told RNA. The Assistant Executive Engineer of the sub division Kreeri Fida Rizvi however, chose to contradict his own employees who remain stationed in the Filteration plant round the clock and claimed that Filteration plant was functional and people were being supplied safe drinking water.
" Filteration process is on. There is no use of power except back washing." Mr. Rizvi told RNA, assuring people of nearly fourty villages that the water supply was safe for drinking even as the power supply continue to remian snapped.
Locals meanwhile have urged Deputy commissioner Baramulla to launch an investigation into the issue and see how people were exposed to health risk from last fifteen days. The locals have also urged former minster and local MLA Syed Basharat Bukhari, who they ( People) say was instrumental in bringing the plant to urge governemnt to probe the matter and fix the responsibility.

" This is a serious issue. This plant is an asset for all of us. We can not afford to let anyone destroy it. We urge governemnt to take the issue seriously." locals told RNA
