No Changes in Pahari Speaking reservation in BGSBSU: VC

Says, fee reduced to half, form cost also slashed down despite economic stress

Srinagar, June 06 ( RNA) : Clearing the air on “ Pahari reservation” issue in Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University ( BGSBSU) , authorities on Saturday said, that the reservation quota for the Pahari speaking was in place and those falling under the category have been given the benefit as per the criteria. Speaking Exclusively to Regional News Agency (RNA), the Vice Chancellor of the varsity termed the reports regarding cancellation of Pahari speaking reservation as “baseless” and asked people not to lend ear to the “rumors”.
“There is no change in the reservation quota in the university. We are providing the Pahari Speaking reservation as per criteria and will continue to do so.” Vice Chancellor Prof. Akbar Masood told RNA, adding that 25 percent reservation for Pirpanchal region was also granted to the applicants seeking admission from the region.
“Not only the reservation. We have also reduced the fee to half despite the economic stress owing to covid. That is not all, even the cost of admission forms was slashed to 650/= from 1000/=.” Prof. Masood further told RNA.
Earlier speaking to RNA, many local political leaders and social activists had accused vice chancellor of bringing the prestigious university to “ruins”, alleging that despite constitutional provisions, the University was denying the Pahari Speaking people reservation in admissions . They also held University authorities responsible for -what they said- “downfall in the enrolment”, claiming that the number of applicants seeking admission in the university was dwindling due to “wrong policies” of the university authorities.
