Principal Secretary I&FC,JS visits B'la; Reviews Phase II Project at Nigli Sopore


Baramulla, May 06 (RNA) : In order to take an overall view of forthcoming prestigious project titled as "Comprehensive Plan for Flood Management Works on River Jehlum and its Tributaries -Phase Il”, Principal Secretary to government,  Irrigation and Flood Control and Jal Shakti Ashok Kumar Parmar accompanied by Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control Department Kashmir and other senior engineers of the district paid visit to Nigli Sopore where he discussed the future plan for the execution of Phase ll Part A of outfall channel of River Jehlum. The total cost of this phase II flood management project is Rs 1623.43 Cr spanning from Anantnag to Uri. Pertinently, under this project the length of River Jehlum from Ningle to LOC, about 79 km and its various tributaries will undergo various types of flood protection works which includes widening of river by 40 meters for a length of about 19 km, construction of navigation channel at Sopore and improvement to various tributaries. At the outset,  Principal Secretary I&FC held a detailed review of project related issues including compensation of land and structures, raising of the embankments, widening of the outfall channel from Sopore to Baramulla and various related issues. While taking an overall review of the project, the Principal Secretary said that the Phase I of the  project is completed smoothly while as the work on Phase II will be initiated for which he impressed upon the Chief Engineer Irrigation & Flood Control Department and all the representatives of the executing agencies to work in a coordinated manner so that all these vital projects gets completed on time. Principal Secretary also had detailed interactions with the concerned representatives and heard the problems faced by the executing agencies.  He exhorted upon the Chief Engineer, I&FC J&K to explore possibilities to remove the bottlenecks faced by them on priority basis so that the project will be completed in a time bound manner without any fail. Earlier, the Principal Secretary inspected the starting point of Flood Spill Channel at Padshahi Bagh where he was informed about the status of works being carried out for the widening and drudgeing of the channel. He also inspected the spill channel at Bemina spot where he was given the status of works of resectioning, Bemina bridge etc of the FSC and besides compensation and rehabilitation processes. He also visited Naidkhai Sumbal and inspected the proposed site for resectioning of the FSC at the location.
