Qayoom Wani demands relief for hailstorm hit farmers

Srinagar, July 16 (RNA): Expressing shock over the loss of property and crops in gusty winds and hailstorm in Sopore and Tral areas on Monday, People's Democratic Party leader Ab. Qayoom Wani has said that the weather vagaries have wreecked havoc to crops and fruits this year in most of the areas of the valley leaving the farmers and growers distressed. In a statement to RNA, Wani said loss to crops and fruits has also resulted in huge financial loses which could hamper the Agricultural and Horticultural related economic activities in valley puting more stress to farmers.
Mr. Wani urged Governor Adminstration to assess the damages and provide relief to the farmers. He said that no compensation or interim relief has been provided to farmers who have been struggling with weather vagaries since the onset of spring.
He also appealed Chief Secretary to ask the concerned deputy commissioners to dispatch teams to the affected areas for assessment of damages and the subsequent compensation packages to the farmers. (RNA)
