Allegations of graft in MC Ganderbal, locals urge Governor to order "special audit"

Allegations of graft in MC Ganderbal, locals urge Governor to order "special audit"

Srinagar, July 30 (RNA): As the government appears to be getting serious in curbing corruption from the system, calls are getting louder from central district of Ganderbal for a special audit in the local Muncipal Comittee which has reportedly remained a " gold mine" for many during last twenty years. Sources in the MC Ganderbal told RNA that huge bunglings, frauds in purchasing and irregularities in building permissions are just a few among hauls of instances of mismangement and misappropriation committed by multiple Executive Officers and other staff from last two decades which has shrunken the resources of the muncipality. Many locals told RNA that in the past they had approached higher authorities who didn't seem keen to act barring one deputy Commissioner who suspended a few at one instance. They said , the purchasing of machinery was a great concern which must be probed.
Some employees of the MC told RNA that a loby within the muncipality was very active in creating hurdles for incumbent EO who has recently joined , fearing that he might dig the old graves which might out them as well as some former EOs in trouble. They said this lobby is hell bent in not allowing the officer to settle down and are creating hurdles unnecessarily.
They said the toll tax booths have been a huge means of corruption in MC since 2002 and should be probed in-depth.
Pertinently some locals also said that they will also apeal Governor to order probe in the MC. (RNA)
