District admin Ganderbal conducts mega sanitation drive at Baltal, Sonamarg


Ganderbal, July 30 (RNA): In view of thinning of the Yatra, District administration in close collaboration with the Shrine Board and the Sonamarg Development Authority today started a mega sanitation drive in their respective areas of jurisdiction.

The sanitation drive was kick started by the Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal Hashmat Ali Khan along with Additional District Development Commissioner, Ganderbal Shafqat Iqbal and Camp Director Baltal Nagindar Singh Jamwal from the Baltal Base camp.

Describing the sanitation drive as a significant step, DDC said such drives are much needed and the focus of the drive was to spread the message of green Sonamarg and green Yatra by ensuring cleanliness at all places in the area.

Giving emphasis on sanitation, he directed the concerned officers to keep the Sonamarg, Baltal Base Camp and its surrounding clean and requested all stake holders and Shopkeepers in particular not to throw any kind of waste outside on the road.

Similar sanitation drive was also carried out under the guidance of ADDC at the Sonamarg in which around 200 students, dy. CEO, teachers and SDA employees participated.

Speaking on the occasion, ADDC said that aim of carrying such sanitation drive is to bring about a permanent behavioral change among the people and tourists by encouraging them to change their habits and keep the Sonamarg tourist destination free from litter and garbage.

Camp director said that we will launch more such initiatives to spread awareness about sanitation and hygiene through action drives in coming days till Yatra ends in next month.

Members from SASB, NDRF, SDRF, CRP, JKP and union members of pony walas also participated in the sanitation drive and pledged for green environment and proper sanitation.

DDC also urged the camp director and CEO Sonamarg Development Authority to further intensify the sanitation drives in the entire Yatra area to ensure that all the Camps and tracks are totally free from any waste with special focus on the collection & disposal of non –bio-degradable materials on the conclusion of the Yatra.

Later ADDC along with camp director also distributed prizes as a token of appreciation among the students who showed active participation in the drive. (RNA)
