Center to examine revoking AFSPA and withdrawing troops from J&K: Amit Shah

New Delhi Mar 27  (RNA), The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act from Jammu and Kashmir would be reviewed by the federal government, according to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who also stated that a plan for troop withdrawal from the Union Territory is in place. Shah stated that the administration will undoubtedly take into account withdrawing the AFSPA from Jammu and Kashmir in the future in an interview with Gulistan News. "We are quickly considering revoking the AFSPA from Jammu and Kashmir and a state of change is being considered," he continued, adding that "the situation is getting normal."

In response to a question on reducing the presence of security forces in J&K given the better state of law and order, he stated that the government has already created a plan for military withdrawal and that the procedure will start following the elections. "We intend to remove our troops and hand law and order over to the Jammu and Kashmir Police exclusively." The J&K police were not trusted by New Delhi in the past, but now they are leading the way in handling any issue, the home minister  stated. (RNA)
