Women discuss gender, health issues in Mahila Sabhas

34 Panchayats of Hajin, Naidkhai remain abuzz with BBBP Week activities


Srinagar, Jan. 01 ( RNA) : The activities under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Week continued in Bandipora district on Wednesday with women participating in Mahila Sabhas to discuss various issues.

In second phase, 34 Panchayats of Bandipora and Arin block of the district celebrated the week. The Programme started with the organisation of Special Mahila Sabhas which was chaired by Lady Ambassadors and female Panchayat members.

Health and Anganwari workers including frontline workers of the government departments, pregnant ladies and adolescent girls also attended the Mahila Sabhas. The issues regarding education, health, menstrual hygiene and reproductive health were discussed on the occasion.

During the programme, special stress was also laid on the identification of girl school drop outs. The lady ambassadors counselled the drop out girls and their parents to motivate them and on spot enrolment was also carried out in various schools for the drop out girls, on this occasion.

Mothers who gave birth to the girl child in recent past in the village were also felicitated during the program and special baby-care kits were distributed among them. Meritorious female students were also felicitated.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora who also holds the charge of District Programme Officer, Bandipora said that the aim of celebrating the week is to celebrate the birth of girl child to ensure her education and good health besides making people understand the importance of girl child in society. He said the ambassadors have been appointed for each Panchayat to give a message to the people that women is second to none as they have proved their metal in every field be it sports, education or politics.

He said during the week long activities, the female members of the society will get to know the government schemes in place for the welfare of the female folk. He said the Special discussions will also be held on the importance of Girl Child with special emphasis on negative impact of declining sex-ratio on the society.

Mirza said the officials will reconcile the registered data of pregnant women and recorded births at Panchayat level to overcome the disparity in record of Health Department and ICDS.

Pertinently, the week is being celebrated in three phases in all the 151 Panchayats of Bandipora district and 151 lady ambassadors have been appointed to visit all the Panchayats to participate in the BBBP week activities.

In the third phase, programmes will be organised in 34 Panchayats of Aloosa and Bonakoot block on January 02 while in eight Panchayats of Ganstan, Sumbal and Nowgam block, the week will be celebrated on January 04.RNA
