Srinagar, Oct 2: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) leaders led by former minister and former JKPCC president Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed Saturday paid tributes to Father of the Nation - Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary.
To commemorate the Gandhi Jayanti, a meeting of the JKPCC was held here which besides Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed was attended by vice presidents, G N Monga and Mohammad Anwar Bhat, ex MLA Mohammad Amin Bhat, Adv Manzoor Ahmad Ganie (ex advisor to former CM) Fayaz Ahmad Dar (district president Congress, Pulwama), Zahid Hussain Jan (District president Budgam), Inyatullah Rather (senior leader and DDC member) Altaf Ahmad (senior Congress leader) and others.
While paying rich tributes to Father of the Nation the speakers said the Gandhi Jayanti reminds us to rededicate ourselves towards promoting amity, peace, selfless service, social equity, and social justice.
“What Gandhiji achieved in his life was a miracle. He lived in the hearts of millions of Indians and was respected by all. He campaigned to uplift the downtrodden, to ease poverty, expand women's rights, build religious and ethnic amity, end untouchability and more,” the speakers said.
“Gandhiji was not only the inspiration for millions of people during the freedom movement, but even today. He used tools like upavas, satyagraha, ahimsa and non- cooperation to achieve his goal. His most endearing qualities were his insistence to always tell the truth and his disciplined way of life,” they added.
The speakers also paid tributes to Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary. “Jai Jawan Jai Kissan will always remain, Shastri Ji’s simplicity and determination are a source of inspiration even today.”
