DC Bandipora administers Swachhta Pledge to Officers
 
Bandipora, October 02: As Part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mohatsov and to commemorate the 152nd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad on Saturday administered the Swachhta Pledge to the Officers, Officials of the Mini-Secretariat district.
 
Senior Superintendent of Police Mohammad Zahid, Additional Deputy Commissioner Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Parvaz Rahim, Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad, District Information Officer Jahangeer Akhoon and other senior officers of the district were present on the occasion.
 
All the participants took a pledge to initiate the quest for cleanliness with themselves, their family, their locality and workplace, besides spreading the message of Swachh Bharat Mission.
 
The pledge ceremonies were also held at Sub Divisional Level, Block Level and Tehsil Level wherein the respective SDMs, BDOs and Tehsildars administered oath to the officers and officials. Similar ceremonies were also held in all the colleges of the district.
 
Speaking on the occasion Deputy Commissioner urged the officers to ensure cleanliness in their offices and in their respective areas . He said a month long calendar has been drafted for cleanliness. He said during the month, not only the cleanliness drives will be launched but sensitization and awareness programmes will also be launched among the masses. He said the focus is on the proper disposal of the solid waste, use of dust bins and avoid littering waste on road sides.
 
The district administration launched a massive cleanliness drive across the district wherein the employees launched cleanliness drive at their work places cleaning their offices and surroundings including Schools, Hospitals, Colleges, government offices, public parks and water bodies.
 
A massive cleanliness drive was also launched by the District Administration and District Legal Services Authority in collaboration with Municipal Council Bandipora at Banyari village in Wullar Lake. The drive was inaugurated by Additional District Development Commissioner Ali Afsar Khan while Secretary DLSA Faiq Nazir and Chairman Municipal Council Bandipora Khursheed Ahmad was also present on the occasion. Students, teachers, Anganwadi workers along with the employees of ICDS took part in the event and gave a message about the value of cleanliness in our lives. 
 
DC Bandipora on the occasion stressed upon scientific disposal of waste and said that the dumping of wastes should be carried out in a proper manner in rural and urban areas. He said Household wastes should not be thrown in open grounds and places as this will lead to hazardous results for our environment and health, he told.
He said that, Wular Lake being one of the largest freshwater lake is the home to thousands of migratory birds and it is our responsibility to preserve the ecology of the lake as well as the habitat of migratory birds.
 
Officers highlighted the importance of cleanliness and urged the people to ensure their surroundings are clean for their own good health. They urged the people not to throw garbage on roads and water bodies and stressed on use of dustbins to ensure that the waste is properly disposed.
 
On the occasion ADDC said the district administration is working on establishing a major waste management plant in the district that will help in scntific disposal of all the waste if the district so that water bodies especially Wullar is protected from getting polluted.
 
Secretary DLSA Fariqa Nazir while highlighting the importance of cleanliness in and around urged teachers to organise competitions among children to highlight the need of cleanliness and personal hygiene. She urged to cultivate habit of cleanliness among children and urged them to act as ambassadors of Clean India. Participants also urged on strict implementation of ban on single use plastic.
 
Chairman MCB spoke on the occasion urged the people to cooperate with the administration in keeping the Bandipoira district clean. He said the people’s cooperation is important to ensure cleanliness. He said the municipal Council will take strict measures against litering of waste on roads. He said the council has started collecting waste from the door steps of the houses to ensure that waste is not disposed in open. He said efforts are on to ensure scientific disposal of the waste.
 
On the occasion Students also spoke about the importance of cleanliness and highlighted the importance of water bodies. They stressed on ensuring safety of the water bodies. Speaking on the occasion Deputy CEO Bandipora said the clean thoughts will ensure clean environment and stressed on ensuring cleanliness of thoughts as well besides cleanliness of surroundings. He appreciated the staff of municipal council and committees for their tireless efforts to keep our surroundings clean. He termed them as the real heroes as they help in keeping the environment clean. Zubair Khatlani district resource person of the education deptt also spoke on the occasion
 
Similar awareness program on fundamental rights and fundamental duties besides an Anti polythene Drive was launched by District Legal Services Authority Bandipora in presence of District Sessions Judge Bandipora in Gurez. SDM Gurez, Sub Judicial Magistrate Gurez, Principal GDC Gurez, Tehsildar Gurez, Executive Engineer SSD Gurez and all other sectoral Officers of Sub Division Gurez also participated in the said programme.
 
As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mohtsov, Governemnt Degree College Ajas also organized online webinar on the theme "Gandhi and Humanism: The Felicific Calculus". 
 
While addressing the webinar, Prof (Dr.) Parveen Kousar the Principal of the College discussed the cooperation, dignified and peaceful co-existence from the Gandhian principles and how they are very much relevant in modern times. The Guest speaker Dr. Shahnawaz Qadri highlighted Humanism in western and Indian perspectives and how Indian concept of humanism is related to self-realization or actual Realization. Later he discussed pragmatic philosophy of humanism by Gandhi under various headings Satyagraha, swaraj salvation, trusteeship, Swadeshi, and Sarvodaya. 
 
 Cleanliness Drive was also launched in District Hospital Bandipora, Sub-District Hospital, Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres under the supervision of Chief Medical Officer Dr Bashir Ahmad.
