KATHUA, OCTOBER 08: Deputy Commissioner, Kathua Rahul Yadav today chaired District Level Approval and Monitoring Committee (DLA & MC) meeting which approved Action Plan of Fisheries Department under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampda Yojana & ‘’Capex Budget’’ for the year 2021-22
 
Assistant Commissioner Development, Superintendent Engineer (Jal Shakti), Chief Agriculture Officer, District Tribal Officer, Manager Distt. Lead Bank, Sr. Scientist/ Head Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Head of Department Zoology from Government Degree College, Kathua, progressive Fish Farmer and Assistant Director Fisheries attended the meeting.
 
The meeting held threadbare discussion and approved the Rs. 1.37 Cr action plan envisaging establishment of Nine Carp Fish Ponds, Three Permanent Trout Raceway Units and One Biofloc unit in the Private Sector besides Assistance to Registered Fishermen of different categories for construction of Ninety Three Low Cost Houses (General Category 52, Schedule Caste 37, Schedule Tribe 04) with Central Share UT Share & beneficiary share.
 
The Deputy Commissioner said that the main objectives of the PMMSY is to generate direct employment, double the income of Fish Farmers, besides promoting fisheries in the private sector and to increase fish production through sustainable and responsible fishing practice and through stocking of Fish seed in private and community ponds.
 
He instructed Assistant Director Fisheries to identify the areas suitable for composite fish culture and the Trout Rearing Unit for exploring Fish culture in the private sector and also stock fish seed in all community ponds of District Kathua.
 
Earlier, AD Fisheries informed the meeting that during the current year 2021-22, a total of 2162000 Fish Seed has been stocked in private ponds, community Ponds River, streams, lakes and Ranjit Sagar Reservoir with the aim to develop fisheries in water bodies across Kathua district.
 
He also disclosed in the meeting that 1156 professional fishermen of District Kathua drive their livelihood from natural water bodies on nominal average licence fees of Rs.400 per annum and free insurance cover of Rs. 5.0 lakh.
