CBI raids ex-officials' residence in J&K, NCR over illegal issuance of arm licenses

Srinagar, Dec 30 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday conducted raids at 13 locations in Jammu and Kashmir and the National Capital Region (NCR) in connection with the arms licence case.

As per now, the CBI has recovered incriminating evidence including documents pertaining to the case.

The search is being carried out at multiple places in Srinagar, Jammu, Gurgaon and Noida in the premises of former district collector or magistrate of Kupwara, Barmula, Udhampur, Kishtwar, Sopian, Rajouri, Doda, Pulwama and several other places.

The ongoing CBI operation is conducted in connection with two cases related to allegations of issuance of around 2 lakh Arms Licences from different districts of Jammu and Kashmir by their respective district collector or magistrate, sources said.

 

Sources said that the officials were paid a bribe in exchange for approving and granting the licenses to non-residents of Jammu and Kashmir.

It was alleged that the then public servants received illegal gratification in the issuance of licences to non-residents of Jammu and Kashmir in violation of rules, an official said.

Raids are being conducted at the residence and other premises linked to former Kupwara DC Rajeev Ranjan,  former Kupwara DM Salim Mohammad, former Kshitwar DM Mohd Javed Khan, former Rajouri DM SC Bhagat, former Pulwama DM Jehangir Ahmed Mir and Doda DM Farooq Ahmed Khan.

Rajeev Ranjan is currently serving the Jammu Metro Rail Corporation .

This is the first major operation by the CBI after the abrogation of Article 370 and recognition of Jammu and Kashmir as a union territory. India Today
